‘Heel Hook’ Mobilization for promoting tibial rotation

March 8, 2010

Here is my second installment of my “joint lock mobilizations” which are techniques which I developed based on submissions locks used in jiu-jitsu competition.  This particular mobilization is very effective for promoting rotation between the tibia and femur which is a motion which must be restored in post surgical cases…however is often ignored.  As always, comments, questions, and discussions are always welcome.

Figure 1 - Hip and knee bent to 90 degrees

Figure 2 - wrap the elbow around the patients forefoot ("headlock" position)

Figure 3 - cradle the forearm under the calcaneous. Mob using light, and controlled superior force to rotate the medial tibial plateau anteriorly.
