Jiu Jitsu Mobilization #4: The ‘Americana’ mob for G/H joint rotation

November 27, 2012

In this video Dr. Spina demonstrates the 4th of this ‘Jiu Jitsu’ mobilizations (mobs based on Jiu Jitsu holds/locks).  With this technique, ‘The Americana’, we are promoting proper glenohumeral external rotation.  This technique is utilized in post surgical situations, frozen shoulder, or for rehabilitating shoulder instability.  YES, you read that correctly.  In a person suffering from anterior shoulder dislocations, the technique is used not as a mob, but as a way to safely train the ‘unsafe’ range of motion (Using PAILs & RAILs procedures).  Of course this is done slowly and progressively in order to adapt the tissues and re-teach the nervous system control of said range.  After the video I have links to the first 3 Jiu Jitsu mobs
